# startpage/

Retro terminal personal startpage for sillylaird.ca.

## Usage
- Open https://www.sillylaird.ca/startpage/
- Use the engine picker to switch search (persisted).
- Type in "Filter cards & links" to live-filter the grid.
- Keyboard: `/` focuses filter; `?` shows help overlay; `Esc` clears.
- Cards powered by `cards.txt` (edit via /admin.php?section=startpage or directly).
- Last.fm now playing pulls from site API.

## Data format (cards.txt)

- One header line starts with `# `
- Following lines until blank or next header are links `Label | url`
- Supported schemes: http/https/gemini/gopher
- Icons must be local filenames in this dir (no ..)

## Editing
Preferred: /admin.php (authenticated).

## OpenBSD boot banner version
The boot overlay shows `OpenBSD X.Y`. Source of truth:

1. `openbsd_version.txt` — written by `../tools/update_openbsd_version.sh` (daily cron scrapes https://www.openbsd.org/)
2. JS date formula fallback if the cache is missing (anchor 7.9 = May 2026)

`index.php` injects `window.OPENBSD_RELEASE` from the cache file.

## Improvements (current)
- Removed vestigial age modal.
- Added live card filter + keyboard (`/`, `?`, Esc).
- Persisted search engine choice.
- CSS grid cards.
- Subtle wallpaper texture.
- Global theme toggle supported.
- OpenBSD version auto-updated via cron.

Legacy: nav_links.txt (unused flat list).
